Zatanna has my Birthday!

In honor of me sharing Zatanna, the Mistress of Magic, who I recently discovered shares my May 20th birthday, which ups her in my eyes by a factor of ten, I will share Justice League Dark, the only title to feature Zatanna in the New 52. Also features John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, and Shade. If regular superheroes aren't magical enough then these heroes should appeal to you.

Zatanna has always been a favorite of mine ever since she was shown as a confidant of Batman in the Justice League Unlimited Episode "This Little Piggy". I later discover that her sisterly relationship with Bruce is also in the comics where she acts as his go to magical expert. I am hoping for good things from this title and I hope they do right by the character.

The Avengers Trailer

The trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie was recently released. I really enjoyed these heroes in their solo movies, but every fiber of my being is telling me this movie will be epic. Just from the video you can see how well the actors mesh together as a group. Juggling that many big names headlining their own franchises can't be easy, but I have every faith that Joss Whedon can pull it off from his excellent work on ensemble casts like Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Looking forward to the May 4 release date of this movie.

Favorite Quote
Tony Stark (Iron man) : Dr. Banner, your work is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green enraged monster.
Bruce Banner (Hulk) : Thanks

This quote shows what looks to be an interesting take on Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. They've never been shown as friends in the comics but it makes sense from their mutual love of science.

Cleopatra in Space!

Cleopatra in space, pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. Cleopatra, or Cleo as she's know to her friends, is brought into the future. Then she proceeds to get into exactly the kind of you would expect a sixteen-year-old given a laser blaster would get herself into, much to the ire of her guardian Khensu, who get happens to be cat.

Read Cleopatra in Space!

Cleopatra is an interesting figure in history. Interesting more even for how romanticized and sensationalized she was. It seems that authors can extol her virtues without compunction but the truth is we don’t know what Cleopatra looked like. There are no busts of her that survive to this day and even most of the accounts of her looks were written well after she was long dead. She seduced Mark Antony and Caesar, but she could achieve that with her power, influence, or wits as was also attributed to her. The myth of Cleopatra may exceed the reality but I like to think of her as the successful independent ruler of Egypt that she was.

Cleopatra in Space! Is a fun retropunk pulp adventure that I think lives up to the ideal of Cleopatra as well as the feminism and power of one of Egypt’s most famous rulers.

Mouse Guard by David Peterson

This graphic novel is about the Mouse Guard a group of mice who protect the city of Lockhaven from the many things that threaten it. It's an underdog story about those who aren't afraid of whats bigger than them. The fate of their world rests on their shoulders and their swords. If you've read the Tale of Despereaux, or seen the movie, and enjoyed it this the new thing for you.
